Trapped by my own laziness.

by

Geez what a way to start off 2012. It’s barely a month old and already I find my self in a no win situation. My two options are 1) Ignore Dave’s comments and let him suffer under the wait of being the social media honcho for the ILP but in the knowledge that he would be a right smug git about it. Or 2) Write something up knowing Dave has already written in a clause that allows him to be a smug git about it. What a bastard.

I think my outlook for 2012 is to try more things. If I am going to be coerced into writing random musings more often I guess I ought to try and find interesting things to blather on about. I’m not exactly sure what form these ‘new things’ will take but we shall see where the overall ethos takes me. January has actually not been too bad for this so far. I went to an all girl acapella beatbox gig which was amazing. If you get a chance to see The Boxettes take it. The band were extremely personable and talented and had the small all seated auditorium buzzing and a whooping. What could have been a stuffy event was transformed into a happiness inducing 90 minutes of lovely melodies and insane human made noises.

I also signed up to Lovefilm for the first time. It’s never really interested me before as I am a dirty charity shop addict and regularly furnish my flat with stacks of cheap DVDs that grow disproportionately to the number I actually watch. However LF sent me a months trial that if I took I also got £20 worth of Amazon vouchers. Hey that’s free money and free movies. I’d have been stupid to turn them down. Am I going to stay a customer? Don’t be silly. I have spent the month cramming film viewing in till my eyes bled, we even got video games, and now I am going to dump them like a regrettable one night stand. God that sounds callous but hey, we are in a recession after all. Let’s just hope that my aging memory doesn’t forget to actually click the canel button before the month is out.

Well it looks like I still ended up blathering but at least it wasn’t about how the crapets need hovering and what to put in my sandwich tomorrow. Lets see how long that holds up for eh. Roll on a 2012 of new endeavours and exciting happenings.

The ILP in 2012

by

Just before I started typing this I sent Tyler (our esteemed presenter) a text asking him to write a blog. This made me chuckle as I do not expect to:

1. Get a reply
2. Tyler to write a blog post of any kind
3. For Tyler to even read any of this post
4. For Tyler to read the post, get annoyed and try and prove me wrong

I was reminded, by my lovely girlfriend, that I started work on this new look website way back in 2009, which is three years ago now, and one of the things that we have failed to do on a regular basis is write many blog posts. I was hoping that at minimum I could get the other presenters to post one a show; which is every two weeks. I believe Debbie (the other esteemed presenter) has only written one in this entire time which is ironically titles One Of Many…. This is something that I wish to change in 2012, however, it really is surprising how much time all Social Media management takes. Alongside this podcast I produce another called Cake Or Death Cooking (which you should check out if you like cooking good food and if you can’t then this will help) which means I have two WordPress sits, three Twitter Accounts, Three Facebook Accounts, Three Audioboo, a few lost Myspace accounts and then I have to manage iTunes and my publishing platform Libsyn. I’ve spent most of the day making little tweaks. It’s a hard knock life trying to do things on-line.

But enough about my day what you really want is news! Well I’ve already stated that there will be more blog posts, even if it is only me writing them, and more Audioboos. I intend to record at least one each show, so if you like listening to people talk whist eating pizza you are really in for a treat with our Pizza Talk Audioboos. Seriously, they are a great insight into how the show operates. As a producer I would always get frustrated at the interesting conservations happening off-air. If only the mics can be on all the time?

I also plan on making the show much more frequent and sticking to our ever other week timescale but the real beauty of The ILP podcast is that it really is a living project. This time last year we were still prerecorded and then within a few short weeks we had transformed into a live streamed show with video. It adds so much more to the experience both in terms of the thrill and stress of being live and listening for the audience. No longer do I have to chop a 40 minute link into at 12 minute “best bit”.

This year we turn six and I think it is a remarkable achievement that we have been going for this long. I’ve not done anything else this long in my entire life other than eat and breath. The ILP has out lasted jobs, houses, relationships, and MAs. We have witnessed marriages and births and hopefully much more. So here is to a great 2012 and I hope to see you all on Wednesday 1st February, if not you can always download the podcast.

Producer Dave.

P.S. There was no show 119 as I forgot. Well not forgot I just numbered them incorrectly! Oops, there will be no more of that.

Wednesday 1 February…The ILP Returns

by

Happy New Year! So far we have have been quiet in 2012 recovering from our turkey hangovers and as the last scraps of meat are boiled up for Turkey soup I can now officially announce that The ILP Podcast will return with a live show on Wednesday 1 February! All you have to do is come and visit The ILP Website and head to the Live Page.

And what better sound track announce our return than Kunt and the Gang. Sometimes I think the random mode on iTunes has more intelligence than we give it credit. But I digress, not quite as much as George R. R. Martin and at least you don’t have to wait six years until a new instalment. Any who The ILP Podcast is moving to a new home on a new night. We will be here every other Wednesday throughout 2012 to entertain and play some dann good music.

I would like to point out that Bjork is now playing, which is good as the the previous song was not particually high brow. I also realise that there are many unanswered questions that were left after the cliff hanger ending in the last show. Actually that is a lie as there was no cliffhanger ending and there is only one question. What happened to Show 119? I am going to take some time to answer this in another blog and tell you about all of the exciting plans that will be coming up in 2012. Until then I am going to leave you with a picture of Chuck Norris, your hopes and your dreams.

See you in a few weeks.

Dave.
